A simple ride home can stay with you longer than you expect.
While helping my wife, Kristi, at Pikku & Koselig at the Fresh Market in Hershey, I had an experience that brought back memories of my childhood and reminded me of the care I want to bring to my work.
Kristi is building her dream around Nordic food, handmade treats, and small-batch hot sauces. Being there with her has given me time to reflect, organize my ideas, and get to know some of the people who make the market special.
One of those people is Linda, an Amish flower vendor.
Kristi had been giving Linda and her family rides. When she asked whether I could help, I was glad to. On Friday, I drove them home to their farm. On Saturday, I picked them up, took them to the market, and brought them home again.
During one ride, Linda hummed and her little girl sang along.
Those small sounds stayed with me.
Memories that come back unexpectedly
I grew up as one of seven children. My parents worked hard, faced losses, and started over. I remember my father singing, laughing, and finding ways to make us laugh.
He taught me to keep my word and treat people with kindness.
Returning to that farm, I could almost hear his laughter again. It was a memory that touched my soul and filled me with joy.
Linda also gave us a bouquet of flowers. Looking at those flowers reminded me of the time we had shared and how much a simple encounter can mean.
I had offered my time and a ride. I came home with memories of my father and a clearer sense of what matters to me.
Making time to understand
I have ambitious goals. I want to grow my business, support my family, and keep improving.
I also know how easily a busy day can become a series of tasks to finish. When that happens, I can miss the chance to listen to someone and understand what matters to them.
Getting to know Linda and her family reminded me to make room for those moments.
That lesson carries into my work with customers.
Someone considering a vehicle deserves time to ask questions, clear information, and choices that make sense for their life. Listening helps me understand what they need. It also gives me a chance to learn.
A good sale should benefit both sides. Whatever a customer’s budget, I want them to feel heard and to know I will keep my word and follow through.
That is the trust I want Drive With H to stand for.
Room for kindness
I still have big plans for the future. Along the way, I want to make room for laughter, kindness, and helping other people grow.
Sometimes a ride home is enough to remind me.
If you visit the Fresh Market in Hershey, stop by Linda’s flowers and visit Pikku & Koselig to say hello to Kristi.
What small encounter has stayed with you lately?
Make it a great day.
